Getting Started

Where do I get started racing?

Longmont BMX operates under the sanction of the American Bicycle Association

What do I need?

First, of course, is a Bike!! (That's what the 'B' in BMX is for after all!!)
    - Any BMX type bicycle will do, 20" wheel size is the standard for most riders.

Some recommendations for getting your bike race-ready:

    - Check and tighten all bolts - especially axle and stem bolts
    - Remove any Freestyle type axle pegs
    - Remove all reflectors and reflector brackets for safety purposes
    - Any kickstand must be removed
    - You will need a numberplate, and a temporary plate may be obtained from the local track until you can obtain one of     your own

Recommended safety equipment and clothing:

    - Long pants or jeans
    - Long sleeve shirt
    - Closed toe shoes - skate type shoes are suggested.
    - A helmet - full face is recommended, DOT rated are highly recommended (the type used in motorcycling) but not         required.  Loaner helmets may be available to borrow.

Next, you need to find a track, which you already have since you're on our website!!  The Track Info section has all you need to find us, racing schedule, and racing fees.

You can contact the Track at 303-XXX-TBD1.   Feel free to call us with any additional questions that may not be covered here or in the track info section.  If you do call us with any additional questions, please don't forget to ask how big the trophies are!!!

And finally, racing requires membership in the ABA.  For more information, see The ABA Website.
